Old Testament 1
Genesis 33:17 - 34-31

Rape is evil!

Shechem raped Dinah; Jacob's daughter, then asked Jacob for her hand in marriage. Claiming he loves her.

Firstly, rape is totally wrong.

Secondly, if he loves Dinah, the first step was to ask Jacob for her hand in marriage.

After raping her, he started acting kind. That is not the right way to do things.

Maybe he thought since he has raped her, Jacob will have no choice than to give Dinah to him.

Simeon and Levi deceived shechem and his father; Hamor.

Hamor and shechem convinced all the other men in the land to do what Simeon and Levi said is the only condition they would allow them to marry their sister.

Hamor , shechem and all the men agreed. When they were weak Simeon and Levi killed them.

There are lessons we could learn here. Shechem did what was wrong but instead of his father to rebuke him. He simply supported him.

There are parents like Harmor today who spoil their children, they give their children whatever they ask even when it is wrong. When their child does what is wrong they do not rebuke them. They even support them more.

Noticed how shechem and hamor convinced the people of the land. After saying we will marry their daughter and they will marry ours, they said (verse 23) Jacobs’s cattle, and possessions will be theirs.

Also the men of the land must have heard about the rape but they did not rebuke shechem.

Maybe since he is their prince and they are scared of him and his father, they could have told Shechem; go ahead and marry if you wish but we are not getting involved in this and if we want to marry Jacobs’s daughter, it won’t be on this premise.

This passage teaches us to follow the right order of doing things. The consequences of following the wrong order is bigger than the fear of not getting what you want.

Old Testament 2
Psalms 4, 5, 6

To the chief Musician on Neginoth, A Psalm of David.

[But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him put your trust in the LORD.]

If you want God to hear you when you call, trust in Him and be righteous.

[I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.]

When we are righteous and trust in God, we will have peace. We will have rest because we know the Lord is our safety.

To the chief Musician upon Nehiloth, A Psalm of David.

[For thou [art] not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: Neither shall evil dwell with thee.

The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity]

You need to run away from sin if you want God to hear you. Unfortunately, some people don’t even care if they are in sin. We have people who are comfortable in their sin making requests to God today.

David said God has no pleasure in wickedness, and doesn’t dwell with evil

Repent from evil, wickedness, foolishness (the foolish says there is no God. Psalm 14:1)

[But as for me, I will come [into] thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: [and] in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.]

Ask God for mercy and repent, have the fear of God and pray that He helps you.

We can’t walk in righteousness on our own. We need God to help us.

Those that are righteous in God and put their trust in Him will rejoice. They will be blessed and they will be favoured. There is a reward for righteousness.

To the chief Musician on Neginoth upon Sheminith, A Psalm of David

David realised his weakness, and called to God to save him with His mercy.

David was referring to physical enemies but this also applies to spiritual enemies, not just demons. If you have an addiction you are struggling with, that’s the spirit of the flesh which is an enemy to God and whatever is an enemy to God is an enemy to you as a child of God. Call God to save you with His mercy.

[6:9} The LORD hath heard my supplication; the LORD will receive my Prayer]

New Testament
Matthew 19:1-15

[19:6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate]

Marriage is established by Jesus Christ. When the Pharisees came to tempt Jesus concerning divorce.

It is not so from the beginning but because of the hardness of their heart Moses gave them the solution.

It’s better to be patient, search very well and trust God for a partner to avoid divorce.

[19:11 But He said to them, All cannot accept this saying, but only those to whom it has been given]

Also Jesus said the message is not for everybody but only to those who it is given.

Which means even if everybody is doing it, you shouldn’t do it as a follower of Jesus.

And this doesn’t just apply to divorce, there are other things that people are doing you shouldn’t do as Christians. For example, there are #challenges people do on social media that a child of God shouldn’t jump on. People bribe their way to the top, but a child of God shouldn’t.

[19:14 But Jesus said, Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven]

Furthermore in the scripture God said we should accommodate children, do not send them away from God’s presence. You might think they are small but they know what is going on in the church. Even if they don’t get the full picture, in a few years the effect of the teachings they have heard will grow in their subconscious mind and help them.
